"Brush and Beyond" Mixed Media Collage with Vae Hamilton $245

Vae Hamilton workshopThe emphasis is to "open the door" for exploration, creativity, freedom from stress and enjoying the experience in acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media collage. Nontraditional media such as acrylic gels, texturing mediums, collage, transfers, and the use of "collected" materials will be used to strengthen your personal, unique painting styles. Value, design and composition will play an important role in this workshop. Vae Hamilton is a full time artist with over 30 years experience. She teaches throughout the Southeast and has numerous awards and participated in many prestigious exhibitions. This 3-day workshop will concentrate on teaching the four steps of painting: drawing, color, form, and detail. Jim Crompton has been a teacher of painting for over 35 years and an artist most of his life. As a master painter, romanticist and individualist Jim Crompton has a unique approach to his art work and paints a wide range of subjects including landscapes, musicians, southwestern, portrait, figures, animals and much more. "Portrait in Sculpture and Painting" 2 Part Series with Jim Crompton

This 2 part series with Jim Crompton will explore the intricate details of form in sculpture as a tool to create portraits in Crompton workshoppaintings. With the use of form, light, and texture the participants will learn to understand the details of portrait painting through creating a three dimensional clay sculpture. "Drawing for Beginners" with Mary Dobbin $195 + $15 book: Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain Workbook (optional)

"Have you ever wanted to learn how to draw?"

Using right brain techniques Mary Dobbin will instruct beginners on the exciting path to drawing well. With pencil, charcoal and graphite, students will learn how to begin focusing on various subjects such as portrait and still life. A combination of methods will help the students draw with ease. Mary Dobbin received her masters in painting from Pratt Institute in NY and is currently an art instructor at Caldwell Community College in Lenoir and has taught many workshops, including Hickory Museum. "Let’s Figure It In" A 1-Day Figure painting Workshop with Kate Worm $115 (includes model’s fee)
Wednesday, August 6: 10:00-4:30 PM

Working with an unclothed model and using non-traditional drawing and painting techniques, Kate Worm will emphasize composition, color and good drawing as it relates to painting. Kate’s nudes were featured in the Summer 2006 issue of the American Artist Watercolor Magazine. Kate says her work is always an interpretation of observation. She is a popular instructor at the Hickory Museum of Art. All ability levels are welcome in watercolor. "Paint with Trust" Oil Painting with Andy Braitman

Through the use of an intensified color palette, impasto techniques (more evident bold brush strokes) and replacing drawing with layers of paint, Andrew Braitman will teach how to achieve elegance and sophistication in landscape painting. Participants will begin to release their fear of not being in control. Painting for 35 years Braitman was chosen to assist notable artists Andy Warhol and Jamie Wythe at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. He also studied with Martin Puryear who has an exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY in 2008.
